Reese Witherspoon shares a little more about season 3 of ‘Big Little Lies’.

The actress and fellow star Nicole Kidman have been “waiting” for new material from Liane Moriarty, the New York Times bestselling author of “Big Little Lies,” Reese told E! News.

“We’re waiting for Liane Moriarty. She’s going to hand something in very soon,” Witherspoon, 48, said on Saturday on the red carpet of her media company Hello Sunshine’s second annual Shine Away conference. “We’re back to the original author and we’re going back to the original characters.”

She added: “It’s exciting too because I think the kids are probably a bit older now. So that could add another element. I don’t know yet, I haven’t read it yet.”

Both stars previously confirmed that a third season of the Emmy-winning HBO drama series is in the works.

Season 3 of ‘Big Little Lies’: What we know

In November, Kidman, 57, said a third season was in the works during a Q&A and later told Variety that she and Witherspoon text about it “every day.” “There is a timeline and we are doing it,” she added. Kidman and Witherspoon are both producers of the show.

During a Vanity Fair interview in June, Kidman confirmed that Season 3 is moving “fast and furious,” but chided her own eagerness to talk about the new season.

“We have to keep our mouths shut,” Kidman continued. “There’s that whole thing about never talking about something until you’ve done it. When you talk about doing it, that’s the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you’ve done it.”

The first season, which debuted in 2017, revolved around a mysterious murder and the group of women involved in the investigation. Witherspoon, Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz and Laura Dern starred. Although it was initially billed as a one-season story and even won the Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series, the show returned in 2019 for a second season depicting the aftermath of the murder. Meryl Streep was added to the cast for season 2.

In previous interviews, Dern and Woodley both said they hope there will be a third season.

“We love each other so much and would have the time of our lives if we were back together, and we love our characters so much,” Dern told Entertainment Weekly in February.
