Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti says Kylian Mbappé will score

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said he is not worried about Kylian Mbappe’s goal after the forward failed to score for the second straight La Liga match.

Mbappé signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid this summer and opened his deal with the club earlier this month when they won the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta.

The LaLiga champions won 3-0 at the Bernabéu against Real Valladolid on Sunday, but Mbappé was substituted after 86 minutes, following his second league game without a goal.

Midfielder Federico Valverde put Madrid ahead after the break and substitute Brahim Díaz scored the second, before Mbappé’s replacement Endrick scored his first for the club in the 96th minute.

In his post-match press conference, Ancelotti denied that Mbappe’s position as a striker, rather than a winger, limited his ability to contribute to the team.

“No, I don’t think so at all,” Ancelotti said. “(Mbappé) is a spectacular attacker, he is very fast and he moves well without the ball.

“He had three chances. I think he will score in that position, as he always scores. I don’t think he has to play left or right. He will score.”

Ancelotti also praised Endrick, who signed for Madrid this summer at the age of 18.

“He looks good,” Ancelotti said. “He has a lot of potential and with the goal he showed all his qualities. He has good control and a good shot.

“He is a penalty box forward. In small spaces he is very, very dangerous.”

Madrid’s victory over Valladolid followed a 1-1 draw away at Real Mallorca on the opening weekend of the LaLiga season as Madrid look to defend their title.

The team are currently without midfielders Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga, both injured, while defender Ferland Mendy is suspended against Valladolid.

Madrid travel to Las Palmas on Thursday, before hosting Real Betis next weekend.
