RB Dalvin Cook reportedly signs with Dallas Cowboys practice squad

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dalvin Cook has a new home as the veteran running back has signed a contract to join the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.

Cook, 29, played the 2023 season with the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens after playing the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings.

Cook is eligible to be called up to the Cowboys’ Week 1 roster if needed. For now, he will begin the season on the practice squad.

In 15 games last season with the Jets, Cook ran for 214 yards on 67 attempts and failed to score a touchdown.

Cook was one of the NFL’s most productive backs during his prime with the Vikings, making four straight Pro Bowls from 2019-2022 and racking up 1,300+ yards in each of those campaigns.

Cook underwent shoulder surgery in the 2023 offseason and was released by the Vikings before the start of training camp. After signing with the Jets, he took on a reserve role as part of a committee.

The Jets released Cook before their season finale, and he signed with the Ravens for the postseason. He carried the ball eight times for 23 yards in Baltimore’s divisional round win over the Houston Texans. He did not play in Baltimore’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship game. He was a free agent for the entire offseason.

Cook joins the Cowboys’ running back room, which also includes Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn.

Cook met with the Cowboys this week ahead of Tuesday’s roster cutdown day. He reportedly had a visit scheduled with the Indianapolis Colts later this week, but that may now be canceled.
