Puka Nacua knee injury update: NFL insider reveals status of Rams WR

After suffering a knee injury on Sunday that he sustained during the off-season, Puka Nacua is now playing on a week-to-week basis.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided an update on the Rams wide receiver in a tweet on Monday.

“Rams WR Puka Nacua aggravated his knee injury Sunday night against the Lions and while he continues to undergo additional testing, he is expected to be evaluated week-to-week, sources said,” Schefter wrote.

Nacua suffered the injury to his right knee during the second quarter of last night’s season opener against the Lions. He initially went to the medical tent where they re-taped his knee and it was questionable whether he would return. However, after halftime, Los Angeles announced that he would be out for the rest of the game after being stretchered off the field in Detroit.

Before leaving, Nacua caught all four of his passes for 35 yards, including a long of 16 yards. He also recorded a rush that went for seven yards.

This loss could be a big one for LA, considering how impressive Nacus was as a rookie last season. He was a Pro Bowler after posting 105 receptions for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns as the Rams’ leading receiver. They also set rookie records for receptions and receiving yardage. That earned him the No. 2 spot in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting, behind only C.J. Stroud as the only other player to receive a first-place vote.

This reported diagnosis is positive and he could be re-evaluated as early as this weekend. The question now is how many games it could cost him and his team, as their next two games are divisional games starting Sunday in Arizona.

Nacua was stretchered off before the second half against the Lions

Puka Nacua did not play in the second half of the season opener against the Detroit Lions.

The Rams announced that Nacua would not play due to a knee injury he suffered in the first half.
