The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced several changes to its bylaws regarding its annual selection process.

According to the official press release, the most notable change will be that the waiting period for retired coaches will be reduced from five seasons to one season out of the sport.

The other major change is the creation of two new selection committees of 11 people who will review the full list of nominees in the modern and senior categories each year.

Jim Porter, president and CEO of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, released a statement regarding the changes in the announcement:

“The first pillar of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s mission statement is, ‘We will honor the game’s greatest.’ One important way we do that is through an annual evaluation of the selection process and the people involved. By creating two screening committees, there will be more discussion about candidates, with input from more Hall of Famers,” he said. “And by splitting the Coach and Contributor categories, there will be a finalist from each. The important thing is to continue to select great classes of enshrinees, and these steps help ensure that desired outcome.”
