Prince William has been photographed for the first time since Princess Kate returned to work, as the royal family posed with ‘Aston Villa royalty’.

Tonight Aston Villa plays their first home match in the European top flight since 1983.

Villa, also the favorite team of the Prince of Wales, will host Bayern Munich in the Champion’s League.

They last defeated the German side to win the 1982 European Cup.

Big Villa fan Prince William will be on hand tonight to meet members of that victorious team.

Aston Villa’s social media team posted a photo of the royal family with the victorious 1982 team.

They captioned the post: “Royalty meets Aston Villa royalty.”

One fan replied: “It’s another great night for Villa. Let’s be great.”

Another said: “So good to see him.”

A third commented: “Beautiful photos and the Aston Villa sign on the gray floor looks good.”

A royal watcher added: “Wow, I love seeing this.”

As a schoolboy, William decided to support Aston Villa, a club that was fighting for a place in the European Cup at the time.

Decades later, William will finally see Villa play in Europe’s elite club competition when his team takes on Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The Prince of Wales will be at Villa Park as Unai Emery’s side look to make it two wins from two games on their return to the biggest stage following their 3-0 success against Young Boys.

William, who attended The London Air Ambulance Charity with ex-Manchester United midfielder David Beckham earlier this week, presented OBEs to the likes of Ally McCoist and Karen Carney at Windsor Castle on Wednesday before making the trip to the Midlands for the match of Villa against Bavaria.
