Premier League – Next Sacked Manager Betting Odds: Who will be the first to step down in the 2024/25 season?

CHELSEA manager Enzo Maresca is the favourite to become the first manager to fall in the 2024-25 Premier League season.

That’s according to bookmaker William Hill, who has reduced the Blues manager from 9/1 to 9/2, making Hill the first player to resign after Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Last season went against the trend of departing coaches.

Only three of them received their layoff orders, a huge drop from the previous year, when a record 14 were laid off.

Paul Heckingbottom, Steve Cooper and Roy Hodgson were the unfortunate trio last season, while Wolves’ Julen Lopetegui left by mutual consent before the season had even started.

Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Jurgen Klopp and David Moyes left at the end of the season.

It is widely believed that Premier League managers were more confident of avoiding relegation due to the harsh PSR penalties and the lack of quality at the three promoted teams.

But will this year be different?

William Hill believes Enzo Maresca is the most vulnerable at odds of 9/2 after a disappointing pre-season and Sunday’s 2-0 opening defeat to champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

The 44-year-old Italian was offered a five-year contract in June, with an option for a further year, but he is already under scrutiny.

He has faced questions over his decision to appoint Enzo Fernandez as captain, while Raheem Sterling’s representatives want ‘clarity’ over the forward’s future at Chelsea after he was left out of the squad altogether.

Maresca has over 40 experienced players at his disposal after a new spending spree this summer, but it may be some time before he can instil his style of play and possession-based philosophy into Chelsea’s bloated squad.

Leicester’s Steve Cooper is next at 5/1, with the Foxes expected to face a difficult season.

Nottingham Forest’s Nuno Espirito Santo is 8/1 after the draw with Bournemouth last weekend, followed by Erik ten Hag and Eddie Howe – both of whom have enjoyed winning starts.

William Hill spokesman Lee Phelps said: “Enzo Maresca was keen to praise his players after their 2-0 loss to Manchester City, but punters don’t seem so confident about his chances of leading Chelsea to success this season. What’s more, the Italian is our early favourite (9/2) to become the first Premier League manager to be sacked.

“Leicester are relegation favourites and manager Steve Cooper (5/1) could quickly come under pressure, while other managers potentially in the firing line include Nottingham Forest’s Nuno Espirito Santo (8/1) and Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag (9/1).”
