    Two Top 10 teams and participants in last year’s College Football Playoff will take the field at Michigan Stadium on Saturday for a highly anticipated showdown between the SEC and the Big Ten.

    Early Heisman Trophy contender Quinn Ewers and No. 3 Texas head to the Big House to take on No. 9 Michigan, last season’s reigning champions, in a game that could play a major role in the playoff outcome.

    The Longhorns tore up Colorado State in Week 1, scoring 52 points and throwing 545 total yards in a game that saw the starters removed late in the third quarter. Ewers threw three touchdown passes (two to Matthew Golden) and completed 20 of 27 passes for 260 yards. Reserve Arch Manning was 5 of 6 for 95 yards and a TD pass, and added a rushing score in relief of Ewers.

    The Wolverines struggled in their first game against Fresno State. They were up by just six points with less than six minutes to play, but managed to beat the Bulldogs 30-10. Michigan relied heavily on its running game, rushing for 148 yards on 34 carries, led by Kalel Mullings with 92 yards.

    Only one week into the college football season and there are some major changes for the USA TODAY Sports bowl projections. A big week from Miami (Fla.) puts the Hurricanes in position to become ACC champions, and Missouri is now up to No. 4 in the SEC after questions about Oklahoma. — Erik Smit

Miami went into the Swamp and defeated Florida, putting more pressure on Gators coach Billy Napier’s hot seat. The Seminoles entered the season ranked No. 10 and are now out of the US LBM Coaches Poll.
