Manchester United take on Porto tonight in the second match of their 2024/25 Europa League season.

Erik ten Hag’s side are looking to bounce back from their humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Spurs last weekend, with the Dutchman under intense pressure after a string of disappointing results.

Rumors are swirling that Ten Hag has just two games left to save his job, after a run of results that included a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace and a 1-1 draw against FC Twente in United’s first game of the new competition phase.

Porto have not experienced United’s problems in the league, although they did lose 3-2 to Bodo/Glimt in their first Europa League match, so perhaps tonight could be a much-needed win for Ten Hag ahead of next Test weekend at Aston Villa.

Follow the latest updates of the Europa League match below:

Porto 3-2 Manchester United

57 minutes: United are spending more and more time on the ball. Porto, now in the lead, sit back and try to frustrate their opponents.

Unable to break into the penalty area, Garnacho unleashes a visible effort from distance to sting Costa’s gloves.

Porto 3-2 Manchester United

54 minutes: It is United’s turn to look for the equalizer.

Bruno Fernandes fires an effort across the goal and hits the ball with power, but it goes wide. Nothing to worry about for Costa.

Christian Eriksen is then played into the penalty area and takes the ball to the byline, but his pullback rolls straight into the keeper’s arms.

A better delivery and that could have been a golden opening for the visitors.

Porto 3-2 Manchester United

52 minutes: Chelsea fans will watch this tonight and lament the fact that their side could not get a deal for Samu over the line in August, which reportedly fell apart when the check was completed.

He looks like a ruthless goalscorer and a real talent. Definitely one to keep an eye on this season.

GOAL! Porto 3-2 Manchester United

50 minutes: GOAL! They turned it upside down!

It’s that man Samu again with an EMPHATIC finish, shooting into the roof of the net after a Pepe pullback.

They were down 2-0. Now they are 3-2 ahead.

A major response is now needed from Manchester United: a huge test of character.

Porto 2-2 Manchester United

47 minutes: To rescue! Big stop from Onana to deny Francisco Moura, who was in acres of space breaking in behind him.

Far too open from United. Jitters in the early second half.

Halftime: Porto 2-2 Manchester United

Alejandro Garnacho prepares to come on for the start of the second half – and it’s Marcus Rashford who comes out.

You can only assume that’s due to injury because he was on fire in that first 45.

Possible blow for Ten Hag.

Halftime: Porto 2-2 Manchester United

What a half of football we have just seen.

After a hectic 45 minutes, there is nothing to separate the two teams as they go into halftime.

United seemed to have the match under control within twenty minutes, with Rashford and Hojlund giving the Ten Hag team an early lead.

However, two goals in the space of seven minutes held the visitors back as Samu and Pepe brought parity for Porto.

Great entertainment on Thursday evenings. Long may it continue.

Porto 2-2 Manchester United

45+2 minutes: United fans will LOVE what they see from Marcus Rashford.

He terrorizes Joao Mario on the left and drives into the penalty area again, dancing past defenders before firing a shot away but it is blocked.

Best player on the field so far.
