PlayStation Network back online after hours of outage

Sony’s PlayStation Network was down for hours on Tuesday, frustrating gamers around the world who complained they couldn’t log into their accounts.

PSN said on its website that “some services are experiencing issues” and that players “may have difficulty” logging in, creating accounts, launching games or accessing video content.

“We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” the spokesperson said. Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Data from Downdetector, an outage tracker, showed reports first peaked late Monday and continued into early Tuesday, with thousands of reports filed hours after the problem first emerged.

It lasted about eight hours and affected virtually every service that required a PSN login.

It also came shortly after a recent update caused large ads to appear on players’ home screens – a bug that an official PlayStation X account said was the result of a bug that was fixed on Monday.

The outage was largely resolved in the US and Canada by morning, and PSN’s website said early Tuesday morning: “All services are operational.”
