Jane’s Addiction recently reunited, and the band’s re-formation took a shocking turn on Friday.

According to concert footage shared by fans, the band’s concert in Boston was stopped and came to a surprise end when Perry Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro. Farrell was held down by crew members and a man who appeared to be bassist Eric Avery as he threw punches and was pulled away from Navarro.

Jane’s Addiction is currently on a reunion tour with its four original members, which has fans thrilled with their return. The band was also scheduled to play in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Sunday.

Brian Mackenzie, a photographer, spoke out about the incident: “I was filming the show for the venue.. that clip includes everything that happened on stage. Perry had a big bottle of wine with him the whole night, Navarro and Avery kept chatting the whole show and seemed angrier than usual.”

Mackenzie added that the audience thought the band were joking, writing: “Everyone (including us) thought it was a bit. A strange one, but it was almost encore time and it seemed like ONE way to get the band to leave the stage (only to return to thunderous applause), but… 2 minutes later, the house lights and walkout music went off and the show was over!”

In 2022, Farrell spoke positively about Navarro, who had been battling COVID for a long time and was unable to tour with the band as a result, to The New York Post.

“I wish I had my sweet guitar player around me,” he told the outlet. “(But) I live to bring entertainment and art to the world. And whatever I can do to entertain you, to amaze you, that’s what I live for.”

Farrell plays a central role in a much-hyped Sundance documentary that premiered earlier this year about Chicago’s Lollapalooza music festival, the fittingly titled “Lolla.” He’s the lead voice of the three-episode doc, which is now streaming on Paramount+.

The film shows how Lollapalooza ruined bands like Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor tells a great story about their first set), Pearl Jam and Green Day, but also became a symbol of selling out.

Another famous rocker responds to onstage brawl

The incident even prompted a flurry of responses from a famous band member known for his own feuds. Liam Gallagher, the lead singer of Oasis known for his long-running feud with his brother Noel, even responded to the incident on stage.

“That attitude stinks,” Gallagher said on X.
