From a financial perspective, there is no better time to perform than the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The contenders at the top of the standings heading into the final round of the BMW Championship are prime examples of how important a single week of play can be.

The 54-hole leader, Keegan Bradley, was the last man standing in this week’s BMW Championship field, ranked No. 50 on the FedEx Cup points list. He capitalized on the opportunity in a big way, holding a one-stroke lead over Adam Scott with 18 holes to go.

Scott also fell outside the final playoff cutline, ranked No. 41 at the start of the week. He needed a solid finish to qualify for next week’s season finale, the Tour Championship at East Lake, which is open to only the top 30 players. If Bradley or Scott manage to claim the trophy on Sunday afternoon, they’ll rocket all the way to No. 4 on the points list, behind only Hideki Matsuyama, Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler.

Contender Alex Noren is another potential bubble-buster. He starts the week at No. 45, two points behind Bradley and tied for fifth. If his ranking remains unchanged, he will punch his ticket to East Lake at No. 22.

It goes without saying that the stakes are high this week, and in addition to the eye-watering bonuses awaiting the top 30 players who qualify for next week’s Tour Championship, there’s also a $20 million Signature Event-level purse up for grabs. That means $3.6 million for the winner, with seven figures for second and third as well.
