The New England Patriots play an opportunistic game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season, and even their long snapper gets in on the action. Joe Cardona, a newly named team captain for the first time in his career, helped set up a Patriots field goal in the third quarter.

After snapping the ball to punter Bryce Baringer on fourth down, the veteran quickly made his way downfield, eventually taking down Bengals punt returner Charlie Jones and knocking the ball free — the second fumble the Patriots forced of the game.

Safety Jaylinn Hawkins recovered the loose ball to give New England possession inside Cincinnati territory. While the Patriots couldn’t convert the turnover into a touchdown, they did manage to extend their lead: with Cardona snapping back, Joey Slye blasted a 35-yard field goal on the ensuing series to put New England up 13-0.
