The Green Bay Packers return to Lambeau Field on Sunday for their 2024 season opener against the Indianapolis Colts, but quarterback Jordan Love likely won’t be playing at quarterback (he’s doubtful according to the latest injury report).

All eyes are on backup quarterback Malik Willis, who will lead the offense after being taken in the seventh round of last month’s draft from the Tennessee Titans.

Both the Packers and Colts narrowly lost in Week 1.

More: Here are 5 things to watch for as the Green Bay Packers take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2

The Colts had run just three plays 12 minutes into the quarter, but Taylor started the Colts’ second drive with a 17-yard run. After a 13-yard completion on second down, Richardson’s deep pass intended for Pearce was intercepted by Xavier McKinney and returned to the Packers 31.

A pitch to receiver Jayden Reed seemed to catch the Colts off guard, as Reed came around the corner and found space for 22 yards. Jacobs got six yards on the two carries before his number was called again on 3rd and 4 and another stretch play gave the Packers a first down at the Packers 47. Jacobs got another six yards before Emmanuel Wilson got his second carry for two yards. On third and 2, Wilson made his way past the marker to move the chains. 12 of the Packers’ 14 plays were on the ground. Coach Matt LaFleur called another running play, an end-around to receiver Bo Melton for 16 yards. A 20-yard touchdown run by Jacobs was called back for a hold on Rasheed Walker. It was the Packers’ third flag for 25 yards. After a four-yard gain on 1st and 20 by Lloyd, Willis called his own number for 12 yards. He then hits wide to Dontayvion Wicks for a 14-yard score and the Packers lead 10-0. The Packers have 135 yards rushing on their first two drives. Jacobs has 67.

Former Wisconsin star Jonathan Taylor gets the first carry for the Colts and gains three yards. After an incomplete pass, Anthony Richardson hits Taylor for a short gain, but Isaiah McDuffie is there for the tackle and the Packers force a three-and-out, getting the ball back at their own 18 with 9:39 left in the quarter.

Expect a heavy dose of Josh Jacobs, especially early to give Willis some confidence. Jacobs gets the first two carries for 15 yards before a 15-yard completion to Tucker Kraft and a nice gain by MarShawn Lloyd are both called back due to penalties. On 1st-and-20, Jacobs finds a big seam on the left side and sprints 40 yards for a first down. On third-and-7 from the 28, the Colts are all over a short pass to Jayden Reed for no gain and Brayden Narveson kicks a 46-yard field goal to get the Packers on the scoreboard. Jacobs rushes for 49 yards on the drive.

The Packers’ backup quarterback gets the ball first, while Green Bay receives the kick in the home game.

ESPN analyst Rex Ryan doesn’t seem to be a fan of Packers quarterback Malik Willis. He made no bones about it when he picked the Colts today.

Willis has a 39 passer rating in his three starts.

Jordan Love is officially inactive for Sunday afternoon’s home opener against the Indianapolis Colts. But the Green Bay Packers offense will have its best receiver in backup quarterback Malik Willis.

Jayden Reed is active against the Colts after being listed as questionable with a lower leg injury. Reed was listed as a calf/shin sprain on the injury report but was a full participant in Wednesday’s and Thursday’s practice before being limited Friday. Reed’s 138 receiving yards on four catches ranked fourth in the NFL after Week 1. He also had a touchdown through the air and on the ground against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil.

Rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd is also active. Lloyd missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury sustained in training camp. With Willis behind center, the Packers could use the extra depth in their backfield.
