Packers QB Jordan Love expected to miss time with MCL sprain

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love avoided the worst-case scenario after Friday night’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Love will miss time with what is believed to be an MCL sprain in his left knee, but the injury is not expected to end his 2024 season.

Love was injured on the Packers’ final drive of Friday night’s 34-29 loss to the Eagles. He was hit high and low while lateraling the ball to running back Josh Jacobs, causing the ligament sprain in his left knee.

Love, who signed a $220 million contract with the Packers in late July, left the field with coaching help. Reserve Malik Willis, acquired in a trade with the Titans in final cuts, entered the game and played two snaps, throwing an incomplete pass before being sacked before attempting a Hail Mary on the game’s final play.

The recovery timeline for MCL sprains varies based on the severity. Love can miss anywhere from 1-2 weeks to 1-2 months. Surgery is usually not necessary.

The Packers’ upcoming schedule includes a home game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2, an away game against the Tennessee Titans in Nashville in Week 3 and a visit from the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4.

The Packers have Willis as a reserve on the 53-man roster and 2023 fifth-round pick Sean Clifford as the No. 3 option on the practice squad. Rookie Michael Pratt, who was with the Packers during training camp, is on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad.

Willis, a third-round pick in the 2022 draft, has played in 11 games with the Titans, starting three. The Titans went 1-2 in games started by Willis.

Love completed 17 of 34 passes for 260 yards, two touchdown passes and an interception before exiting the season opener.
