Former President Trump was caught up in the excitement of the long-running rivalry between the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia and participated in a wide-ranging interview about college football and the intersection of politics.

In an exclusive OutKick interview with Clay Travis, Trump emphasized the “energy” of the Alabama-Georgia game on Saturday evening.

“This is really big time football, and it’s great to watch,” Trump said.

The crowd in the stadium cheered as Trump watched the game with Sens on the big TV screens and on a video board. Katie Britt, Tommy Tuberville and Steve Daines from Montana.

When asked about his appeal to the younger voter base, Trump said his campaign was “way ahead.”

“We’re way above the young people. It’s an honor. They’re very smart. And she (Kamala Harris) berated them and said ‘they’re not smart’ and, I’ll be honest, they’re a lot smarter than them,” he said.

“There has never been as much energy as there is now. And I think I am, but that also applies when they look at our country and what happened. Our country is doing badly, and it is in a very dangerous place right now. But we love our country, and we’re going to make it great again.

The changes to the NFL’s kickoffs caught Trump’s attention, with the Republican candidate praising college football for sticking with previous rules.

“Big time college football is just as big as the NFL,” he said. “I don’t know what they do with the kickoff return in the NFL. And of course I don’t want to get involved in any controversy, but it looks so bad.

“And I noticed that they hadn’t done that in college, and they shouldn’t do it,” he said. “And I think the NFL needs to come back. And maybe it’s a little more dangerous, but I doubt it’s more dangerous. It’s football.”

“I think they made a terrible mistake with that,” he said.

Trump turned his attention to Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Governor Tim Walz, who attended Saturday’s game between Minnesota and Michigan in Ann Arbor.

“He was booed out of the stadium,” he said. “And you saw the hand we were dealt – it was a little different.”

“We’ll have to see what happens on November 5. I think it’s the most important day in the history of our country,” Trump said. “That’s going to be the biggest election we’ve ever had, because our country is in bad shape. I always said they’re destroying our country, no, they’ve destroyed our country, and we’re going to bring it back.”

Trump turned his attention to seven-time NFL Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who made his debut in the FOX Sports broadcast booth.

“I think he’s done a very good job. And I think he’ll do a very good job. He’s a winner, he’s a champion,” Trump said when asked about his achievements. “And there are a lot of people who are jealous of him, so they will always say, no matter how well he does, they will remain as negative as they can.”

“I think he’s doing fantastically well,” he said.
