One for the record book: Shamrocks take steak win to 17

The Victoria Shamrocks are just one win away from perfection.

The Shamrocks defeated the Langley Thunder 10-8 at The Q Centre on Sunday night to set the Western Lacrosse Association record for consecutive regular season wins with 17. And they’ll look to make it an 18-0 season when they take on the Salmonbellies in New Westminster on Thursday night in the regular season finale.

On Sunday, it was the King brothers again leading the way. Marshal scored two goals and three assists and was named the game’s first star, while his older brother Jesse scored a goal and four assists and was named third star.

The regular season title gives Victoria home-field advantage in the play-offs.

The loss dropped the Thunder (7-9-1) to third place, just behind the Salmonbellies, who were 8-8 entering Monday night’s game against the Maple Ridge Burrards (7-9).

LOOSE BALLS: The Junior Tier 1 Shamrocks claimed the league title and a spot in the provincial finals with a 9-6 win over the Coquitlam Tier 1 Adanacs in Game 2 of their best-of-three league championship series on Sunday afternoon at The Q Centre. The Tier 1 Shamrocks now advance to the best-of-three BC championship series against the Kamloops Venom beginning this weekend in Kamloops. The series winner will advance to the Founder’s Cup national championship tournament next month in Hamilton, Ont.
