Oklahoma vs Tennessee game today: Channel, time, streaming info

Oklahoma football has started its third season under coach Brent Venables with a 3-0 mark and is currently ranked 13th in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Now the Sooners face their toughest challenge yet.

This weekend, Oklahoma makes its SEC debut when it hosts No. 7 Tennessee at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, a matchup of top-15 teams with conference and national title dreams at this point in the season.

The Sooners remain undefeated despite a pair of relatively close games over the past two weeks. After beating Houston 16-12 in Week 2, Oklahoma led Tulane by just five points with seven minutes remaining before pulling out a 34-19 win over the Green Wave late in the game. Sophomore quarterback Jackson Arnold ran for 97 yards and two touchdowns in the win, with the second score coming on a 24-yard dash that extended the Sooners’ lead from five points to 12 with six minutes remaining.

The Vols, however, pose another, much bigger kind of obstacle.

Led by head coach Josh Heupel, the former national championship-winning quarterback at Oklahoma, Tennessee faces the top-scoring offense in the FBS, averaging 63.7 points per game. The Volunteers have outscored their three opponents by a combined margin of 191-13 and have never finished with fewer than 51 points in a game.

Mike Wilson, Knoxville News Sentinel:Tennessee 47, Oklahoma 24

The Vols will finally give up a touchdown this season, but it won’t matter much. Heupel’s return to Oklahoma will result in a sweet victory for Tennessee and its coach. A 4-0 start has Tennessee well-positioned for an open week.”

Justin Martinez, The Oklahoman: Tennessee 34, Oklahoma 20

“OU’s offense has gone through a streak of at least four consecutive drives without scoring a touchdown in any game this season. That can’t happen Saturday if it wants to keep up with quarterback Nico Iamaleava and the Volunteers, who rank first in the nation in points per game (63.7). Wide receiver Nic Anderson could make his debut for the Sooners, which would be a huge boost. But OU still doesn’t have much of a run game, and its short-handed offense will struggle to hold off an elite Tennessee defense led by James Pearce Jr. The Volunteers will win this game.”

Bill Bender, The Sporting News: Tennessee 34, Oklahoma 24

The Sooners are a ranked team making their SEC debut, and the line is down a half-point from the open line. Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold and Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava will be the focus here. Arnold has nine sacks in three games, while Iamaleava has three. If the Vols can avoid turnovers and get the running game going around Dylan Sampson, it will spoil Oklahoma’s party. The Sooners have been home underdogs once this century — a 45-24 loss to Ohio State in 2016. Are the Vols that good? Time to find out.
