Ohio State Run Game Shines, Special Teams Flops Against Marshall

Despite some sloppy moments in Saturday’s game against Marshall Thundering Herd, the Ohio State Buckeyes still pulled out a big 49-14 victory to move to 3-0 on the year.

Below you can read in detail who saw their shares rise and who saw their shares fall because of this game.

For the second straight game, the Ohio State Buckeyes were dominant on the ground, thanks to the running backs carrying the football, the offensive line, and even the tight ends and wide receivers blocking on every play.

The impressive performance against the Thundering Herd was the result of a collective effort that resulted in 280 rushing yards on 30 carries.

Quinshon Judkins led the way with 14 carries for 173 yards and two touchdowns, TreVeyon Henderson added two touchdowns on six carries for 76 yards and James Peoples closed the game with 31 yards on six carries.

Over the last two games, the Buckeyes have rushed for a total of 553 yards and 11 touchdowns.

It was a tough day for the special teams unit. Brandon Inniss messed up a punt, but fortunately for the Buckeyes it was overturned for a penalty on Marshall.

The failed punt for Inniss was the least of the problems, however. Kicker Jayden Fielding struggled with kick-offs to the point that he ended up on the bench in the second half.

Fielding kicked the ball out of bounds three times in the first half alone. The three illegal procedure penalties gave Austin Snyder a chance to play in the second half and he was able to put the ball in play.

This comes after Jayden Ballard made a big mistake against Western Michigan when returning a kick.

The Buckeyes will need to focus on improving their special teams play before traveling to Michigan State.

Ransom was the Buckeyes’ leading tackler on the day with eight total tackles. In addition to the eight tackles, Ransom added one tackle for loss.

Although Ohio State’s defense struggled to get off the field to start the game, they played better as the game went on against Marshall, with Ransom playing a major role in that.

Tuimoloau has been quiet to start the season and hasn’t made much of an impact against the Thundering Herd. His two tackles and one tackle for loss give him five tackles, one tackle for loss and 1.5 sacks in three games.

So far he hasn’t played like a player who would be picked in the first round of the draft, but he has the talent to make a serious impact in every game.

A good Tuimoloau game should come at some point, hopefully as soon as the conference starts.

Other than the pass he intercepted to Jeremiah Smith, Will Howard seemed calm in the pocket and put the ball where it needed to be.

Howard was efficient 16 of 20 for 275 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also added a touchdown on the ground.

Even though Howard isn’t putting up flashy numbers, he’s doing everything he’s asked to do as Ohio State’s starting quarterback. Hopefully, that’s a good sign for the rest of the season.
