NYT ‘Connections’ September 18: Clues and Answers for Game #465

It’s the middle of the week, so it’s completely understandable that you need some extra help today Connections.

Connections is a word play of The New York Times which became incredibly popular in 2023. It follows the huge success of Wordlethe News from the New York Times game created by software developer Josh Wardle.

Spoiler alert: Wednesday’s answers Connections will be revealed at the end of this article, so be careful if you want to figure them out on your own.

How to play ‘Connections’

If you are new to ConnectionsDon’t worry, the game is easy to learn.

Players are tasked with grouping 16 words into four categories based on association. For example, in Tuesday’s puzzle, the words “flat,” “mule,” “pump,” and “slidecater” were grouped together into the “kinds of shoes” category.

Each of the four categories is labeled with a color, indicating their difficulty. Yellow is the easiest category, followed by green, blue, and purple. The puzzles are rarely straightforward, using homophones and puns, among other techniques, to keep players challenged.

The familiarity of the words used and how often they crop up in modern life are also difficulty factors. “Item overlap,” where one word can be associated with multiple categories, is another way Connections test players.

Players have no time limit, but are only allowed four guesses, so think carefully. If you’re feeling frustrated, try hitting the “Shuffle” button to jog your memory.

Earlier this year, Connections Developer and Crossword Editor Wyna Liu spoke with Newsweek about the game’s worldwide popularity.

“The response has been really incredible and overwhelming and unexpected,” she shared. “It’s exciting that something that I care deeply about is resonating with people.”
