Not many people thought the Chicago Bears would win last night’s game against the Houston Texans, but for Bears fans the loss was still demoralizing. Here are a few things I noticed during the primetime game.

• Our offensive line is still a mess. Really offensively. Probably the cause of all the other issues we’ve had, but every player played a role in the poor play from penalties (holding, false starts), missed assignments, outright missing blocks or getting manhandled by the Texans’ defensive front 7.
• The game looks terrible.
• Offensive play calling was disappointing to say the least. Much of it could have been (and probably was) due to the offensive line’s failure to open lanes in the run game or protect them in the pass game, but the plays that were called never seemed to create space for players.
• Gerald Everett no longer has the strength to lean on and I wouldn’t care if he were fired today.
• Caleb still missed way more throws than he should have. The pressure was insane, so again the OL is probably to blame (note the theme), but a few shots to DeAndre Carter, DJ Moore, and Cole Kmet are all throws he can and has made and should start making to help our offense score.

• Rome has to make that catch in the endzone. Yes, Khalil scored shortly after, but a top 10 pick at WR has to make every ball that touches both hands.
• Cole Kmet is a solid blocker. But he looked pathetic when he attacked Will Anderson and still lacks aggression after the catch this season. I hope he can turn that around. He’s been playing too nice lately, IMO.
• As I feared, Mario Edwards played a part and this means the rest of the season is doomed unless changes are made to our iOL.

• Aside from Nico Collins getting bullied all night, the defense played solid, inspired, physical football. It’s an honor to watch them, but as a fan I’m ready for the offense to do the same.
• Kyler Gordon stood out. So did Gervon Dexter, Tremaine Edmunds, Andrew Billings and Jack Sanborn. No one in D played badly.
• Speaking of Spidey, I would have liked to see him catch the ball and run it home for a game-winning touchdown, but I’m glad the offense didn’t get bailed out by the defense again.
• Tory Taylor is once again his team’s best attacker.
