Northern Lights may be hosting a show in the northern parts of the country this weekend. The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) has issued a Geomagnetic Storm Watch for the Northern Hemisphere for October 3-5.

The SWPC detected what is known as a coronal mass ejection (CME) on October 3. This is an eruption of solar material that can stimulate geomagnetic activity around the poles.

The best viewing areas are the northern US states and Canada, with the peak on Friday and visibility through Sunday. In the Rocky Mountain region, the best views are from central Wyoming to southern Canada.

In Colorado, the views won’t be as great as the last major solar eruption that occurred in May of this year. The only areas that have a chance of a faint glimpse are those in northern Colorado, just a few miles south of the Wyoming state line.

There may be mild radio frequency interference over the weekend. But major disruptions are not expected.
