Arson suspect arrested for allegedly setting fire in San Bernardino County

Authorities have identified and arrested a San Bernardino County man for allegedly instigating the Devastating firing linewhich burned more than 34,000 hectares of scrubland and destroyed at least one home.

While few details are available about the investigation, Cal Fire detectives worked with San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office investigators to identify the suspect as 34-year-old Justin Wayne Halstenberg of Norco.

They believe he is responsible for starting the fire, which began Friday in the area of ​​Baseline Road and Alpin Street in Highland. The blaze has since grown to enormous proportions, leaving a trail of destruction as it continues to burn through the San Bernardino Mountains and eventually approaches Big Bear.

Halstenberg was arrested Tuesday before being booked on a charge of arson. He is being held on $80,000 bail, investigators said.

They have not disclosed how they believe Halstenberg started the fire.

The Line Fire is one of three major wildfires currently burning in Southern California, along with the Bridge fire in the Angeles National Forest, which erupted Tuesday to 34,000 acres, forcing several communities to evacuate, and the Fire at airport which has consumed nearly 20,000 acres between Orange and Riverside Counties and destroyed several homes.
