Niners WR Ricky Pearsall shot during attempted robbery in San Francisco

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot Saturday afternoon during an attempted robbery in Union Square, San Francisco Mayor London Breed said.

San Francisco police said Saturday that officers spotted two men with injuries at approximately 3:37 p.m. PT.

Both men were given aid and medics took them to a local hospital for further medical evaluation. Police learned during the preliminary investigation that one of the injured men had attempted to rob the other, Pearsall, police said. The suspect is in custody and charges are pending, police said.

“San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was the victim of an attempted robbery and shooting this afternoon. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and is in serious but stable condition,” the 49ers said in a statement. “We ask that you respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family.”

Pearsall, 23, was selected 31st overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Pearsall struggled with a shoulder injury during pre-season but returned to training last week.

The NFL will have more to say about this story later.
