Nick Saban reacts to Alabama’s offensive explosion, praises Jalen Milroe

A year ago, Nick Saban would be in the locker room trying to get there Alabama ready for the second half against Georgia. But this time he’ll be on the sidelines of the field named after him, providing analysis during the ESPN broadcast. Alabama leads 30-7 at the break and everything seems to be going in the Crimson Tide’s favor.

Saban was impressed with the game plan Kalen DeBoer could put together Jalen Milroe. The quarterback exploded out of the gate to give Alabama a 28-0 lead in the blink of an eye. Milroe also got some credit for going out and executing the plan.

“First and foremost, they have an excellent game plan. Jalen Milroe is doing a fantastic job executing it.”

On the other hand, Saban wasn’t too impressed with how Georgia performed offensively. He noted the desire to take deep shots from the outside, hoping to get their receivers into one-on-one coverage against Alabama’s corners.

Although he was successful in obtaining the matchup, Carson Beck couldn’t connect with his boys. From that moment on, Georgia was never able to build a rhythm again.

“I think just as Georgia came out to play the game on offense, Alabama likes to play in the middle of the field. So they started attacking the corners and they went 0/3 in taking shots. They never tried to establish the run and Alabama jumped all over them offensively. Jalen Milroe himself had more yards than the entire Georgia team until the end.

Milroe completed 18 of 21 passes in the first half, throwing for 199 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, 106 yards and two touchdowns were gained on just nine carries. His only blemish of the night so far has been an interception.

As the highlights rolled, Saban called his former quarterback “the fastest player on the field.” Saban couldn’t help but be impressed, even as a neutral analyst.
