Nick Grimshaw and 81-year-old mother ‘gassed and robbed by masked criminal gang’ in Ibiza villa

Former Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw and his 81-year-old mother were reportedly drugged and robbed by a criminal gang in Ibiza.

The Celebrity Gogglebox star had rented a luxury villa on the party island to celebrate his 40th birthday with his family and fiancée when they were attacked this month.

The raids are believed to have been carried out by a gang who have previously attacked the island by pumping stun gas into the property and then breaking in while wearing hazmat suits. The sun reported.

It is not believed the criminals personally attacked the TV personality, but rather targeted the villa because it is known for use by “wealthy clients”.

A source said The sun: “There has been a series of attacks on luxury villas in Ibiza this summer. Unfortunately, Nick’s villa was on the target list – simply because it was known to be used by wealthy clients.

“The gang had no idea who he was. Unfortunately it was a case of wrong place at the wrong time, but it is scary to say the least.

“Nick was clearly upset, but felt it was best to keep things off social media. Ultimately, it was meant to be a private outing with his family.”

It is believed that neither he nor his family were physically injured in the attack and he has now returned home to London.

Nick was pictured in Ibiza last week with his niece Liv, who appeared alongside him on Celebrity Gogglebox, and his fiancée Mesh Henry as they enjoyed an ice cream.

He rose to fame in 2012 when he took over as presenter of the Radio 1 Breakfast show, replacing radio veteran Chris Moyles. He was also a judge on the X Factor for one season in 2015.

In 2021, he left BBC Radio 1 after 14 years and his regular position at the station was replaced by a new programme presented by Vick Hope and Jordan North.

Other celebrities have claimed to have been victims of aesthetic gas robberies in the past. Former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond and his wife Mindy said they were gassed while sleeping in their St Tropez villa in 2018.
