When Jordan Love fell to the ground in the final seconds of Friday night’s Week 1 game between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles (34-29) and was unable to get up on his own, fans feared the worst.

They can probably sleep a little easier tonight after early reports indicated that Love’s knee injury won’t end his season. However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Love is still expected to miss time after injuring his MCL.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero says the “initial timeline for return is 3 to 6 weeks.”

It’s still a huge blow for Love, who signed a massive new contract during training camp, and the Packers. But the fact that it wasn’t worse — like a torn ACL — based on what it looked like at first should give everyone at 1265 Lombardi Ave. a sigh of relief knowing that Love should be back at some point.

Jordan Love knee injury: What it means and what some options are for the Green Bay Packers

Love returned to Green Bay with the Packers on Saturday after a 10-hour flight home, and he walked gingerly down the steps of the plane.

NFL Twitter Responds to Jordan Love Injury Update

Former NFL player Emmanuel Acho, now an analyst for FOX Sports, gave his take on X, formerly Twitter, in the update.

Football fans are generally grateful that Love’s injury is not worse and wish him the best of luck in his recovery.

When did Jordan Love get injured?

Love was injured when he was tackled in the final seconds of the Packers’ Week 1 game against the Eagles on Friday in Brazil. It happened on the second play of the drive. Trailing by five points and with no timeouts, the Packers were frantically trying to get a winning score.

The drive began at their own 16-yard line with 22 seconds left. On the first play, Love completed a 33-yard pass to Jayden Reed to get to midfield with 15 seconds left.

On the next play, Love stepped into the pocket and tried to get away from two defenders in an attempt to make something happen. That’s when Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter grabbed Love’s left knee before the Packers quarterback was taken down by linebacker Josh Sweat.

Before going down, Love threw the ball back to running back Josh Jacobs, who ran 4 yards out of bounds with 6 seconds left. Love lay in pain and needed help getting off the field.

Packers quarterback depth chart

With Love expected to be out for several weeks, who will fill the Packers’ quarterback position?

Malik Willis, who was Love’s backup on the depth chart for Week 1, took the final two snaps in the closing seconds against the Eagles. He threw an incompletion on his first throw and was sacked on the final play of the game.

The Packers acquired Willis in a trade with the Tennessee Titans at the end of training camp, a day before they released quarterbacks Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt.

Clifford, a second-year player from Penn State, was recalled to the practice squad. He was Love’s backup in 2023, but he had a disappointing training camp in his attempt to replace Love again. Could general manager Brian Gutekunst sign a veteran quarterback while he waits for Love to return?
