NFL injury updates: Texans, Herbert, Love, Mims

The Texans The offense has been riddled with injuries this past week. Both the starting running back Joe Mixon and primary reserve rusher Dameon Pierce will miss the team’s trip to Minnesota this weekend, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Additionally, center Jarret Patterson is also excluded.

Mixon is still dealing with an ankle injury that sidelined him from last week’s win over the Bears. After an explosive Week 1 debut with the Texans in which he rushed 30 times for 159 yards and a touchdown, Mixon rushed the ball just nine times before being knocked out last week. Pierce was absent from last week’s game while dealing with a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 1.

With his RB1 and RB2 on the injury report, Houton will have to turn to Cam Akers And Dare to be Ogunbowale in Week 3. The team also called up a rusher from the practice squad JJ Taylor as a possible insurance. Sap Scruggs should start again at center, though he is also considered questionable due to a groin injury. With Patterson out, Kendrick Green will be the backup center.

Here are some other injury updates from around the NFL:

  • Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has spent the week nursing a high ankle sprain, and has barely shown up for practice since last Sunday. It was announced yesterday that there was no decision yet on whether he would be able to start this Sunday. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there is growing optimism in Los Angeles that Herbert could start tomorrow in Pittsburgh. He is currently listed as questionable and will reportedly test his ankle before the game before making a final decision.
  • Another starting quarterback, Jordan Loveis currently on the list of questionable chances to play tomorrow. The Packers expected a multi-week absence for their newly paid passer, but according to Pelissero, the team hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Love returning after just one absence. Still, Green Bay called Sean Clifford of the practice squad. Clifford will back up Malik Willis if Love can’t leave on time tomorrow.
  • We already knew that wide receiver Tee Higgins was set to make his debut in 2024 on Monday, but Pelissero adds that the rookie first-round forward Amarius Mims has been removed from the injury report and is set to make his NFL debut for the Bengalas a result. Mims suffered a pectoral muscle injury that limited his training camp and prevented him from participating in the team’s first two games. It is unclear what his role would be if he were to play right away, as Trent Brown is the starter for the first few games, but regardless, Cincinnati will be happy to add a first-round talent to their offense this week.
