    Jordan Mason was the man of the hour Monday night after filling in for the San Francisco 49ers while Christian McCaffrey was absent from their season opener against the New York Jets.

    Mason was dominant on the ground, racking up 147 rushing yards and a touchdown on 28 carries, starting after McCaffrey was ruled out with a calf injury.

    While NFL fans were unaware that McCaffrey wouldn’t play until just before kickoff on Monday, Mason told ESPN’s Lisa Salters that he knew he would make his first start on Friday.

    Mason’s admission left football fans stunned. The 49ers had remained tight-lipped about McCaffrey’s availability leading up to the game, even though the star running back was listed as questionable after not playing in the preseason.
