Nevada politician found guilty of murdering reporter Jeff German

A former Nevada politician was found guilty Wednesday of murdering an investigative journalist who wrote stories critical of his time in office.

Robert Telles, 47, has been in prison since 2022 for the stabbing death of Las Vegas Review-Journal journalist Jeff German.

During the trial, prosecutors presented the jury with DNA evidence found under Mr. German’s fingernails. They claimed that the DNA evidence came from Telles, who had pleaded not guilty.

On Wednesday, a jury of 12 found the man guilty after two days of deliberation.

Telles, who was elected Clark County public administrator in 2018, testified at trial and pleaded not guilty.

He now faces life imprisonment after the jury’s verdict.

The 12 jurors deliberated for four hours on Monday and about six hours on Tuesday before the panel reached a conclusion.

The trial had been going on for two weeks before arguments began on Monday.

In September 2022, 69-year-old German was found outside his Nevada home, stabbed seven times in the neck and torso.

The experienced reporter had been writing about the city and corruption for more than forty years.

He wrote several articles about Telles, reporting hostile behavior in his Las Vegas office and an affair with a subordinate.

Mr. German had one more article to publish on Telles when he died.
