Until now, when people think of the former Nebraksa football player who was the most dominant defender in the NFL, Neil Smith is probably at the top from the list. Ndamukong Suh is there too. But the one who simply, for whatever reason, doesn’t get enough credit is Lavonte David.

Maybe the former Husker will get some more attention now that he’s done what he did on Sunday. And what he did on Sunday was reach a milestone that has only been achieved once in his team’s history. David recorded his 1,500th tackle of his career.

For the Tampa Bay Bucs, only Derrick Brooks has more career tackles than the former Nebraska football star. And considering the linebacker doesn’t seem to be slowing downit’s possible he’ll be at the top of that list by the end of his career.

David’s first tackle of the day marked the 1,500th of his career. But he wasn’t done there yet. David recorded a strip sack of Jalen Hurts, marking his 30th career forced fumble – tied with Khalil Mack for most active players. To put the exclamation point on his resume, David struck out Hurts for the second time, marking his fourth career game with two-plus sacks (the first since 2018). Now with 35.5 sacks, David is tied for seventh in franchise history.

David made a big case for the Hall as he finished the historic day with 8 tackles and even had a pass defended.

Brooks finished his NFL career with 1,698 tackles. David is currently at 1,508. Assuming he finishes the season with his usual number of tackles of around 120 in a season, he would be around 98 tackles behind Brooks’ career number.

It may only be one more season before the former Nebraska football star establishes himself as the best tackler in Tampa Bay Bucs history.
