Andy Murray’s farewell tennis tour will last another day after the Briton and his partner Dan Evans won the Olympic Games.

Andy Murray’s farewell tennis tour continues for another day after the Briton and partner Dan Evans defeated Belgians Joran Vliegen and Sander Gille 6-3 7-6 11-9 to reach the quarter-finals of the doubles event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The British duo started the first set on the clay courts of Roland Garros at lightning speed with a 3-0 lead, after which they won the first set 6-3.

Their Belgian opponents put up a fight in the second set with Murray – who has announced that the 2024 Paris Olympics will be his last tournament as a professional tennis player before he retires – and Evans losing the tiebreak.

But they eventually won the deciding tiebreak in the third set 11-9 on clay and went on to advance.

They will face American third seeds Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz or Dutch duo Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer.

Elsewhere at Roland Garros, Katie Boulter and Heather Watson reached the last 16 of the women’s doubles, beating Laura Siegemund and Angelique Kerber 6-2 6-3.

The brilliant Spanish duo of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal were forced into a deciding match by their Dutch opponents, but still managed to reach the last eight.

Murray and Nadal are on opposite sides of the doubles draw and could meet in a potential gold medal battle on Saturday afternoon.
