MSNBC host Chris Hayes was furious about new poll results showing former President Trump as the favorite to win the Electoral College and thus the presidency in November.

On Friday, the “All in With Chris Hayes” host took to his X account to criticize recent poll results from celebrity pollster Nate Silver, which showed that Harris would most likely beat Trump in the national census if the election were held today, even though Trump would win the Electoral College.

“It is abundantly clear that the Electoral College is, to quote the great Justice Jackson, a national suicide pact,” Hayes wrote.

POLLS GURU WARNS PUBLIC AGAINST OVER-TRUST IN POLLS: IN LAST TWO ELECTIONS ‘THEY UNDERESTIMATED TRUMP’

The media expert’s statement referenced a quote from Chief Justice Robert Jackson, who wrote in 1949 that the Supreme Court “will turn the Constitutional Bill of Rights into a suicide pact” if it does not balance its “doctrinal logic with a little practical wisdom.”

Hayes appeared to use the quote to suggest that the US’s commitment to deciding presidential elections through the electoral college system — which progressive Democratic lawmakers believe is outdated — will needlessly result in the catastrophe of Trump’s return to the White House.

The poll that Hayes expressed his frustration with was Silver’s latest election model, which was shared Thursday by financial journalist “Geiger Capital” on X.

In describing the model, the X account stated: “Just like that… Trump – 52%. Harris – 47%. Trump is now the favorite again in Nate Silver’s election model. Harris is the favorite in the popular vote, but an underdog in the electoral college. That’s largely because of Pennsylvania (where she passed Josh Shapiro for VP).”

In his post criticizing the Electoral College, Hayes said it is “an extraordinarily dangerous institution that undermines democracy but also creates all kinds of Rube Goldberg-style systems that can be attacked by malicious actors.”

A user responded to Hayes, pointing out that “no state” elects governors based on a similar system. The host responded, adding, “I did a monologue about this and the right went nuts because I *rightly* said that if the EC wasn’t in the constitution it would be blatantly unconstitutional and they were like ‘what a stupid—!’ but that’s the point.”

Hayes provided a link to his MSNBC segment in which he defended Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., after she was criticized for calling the Electoral College “a scam.” During the segment, Hayes criticized the Electoral College as a system, calling it “outdated” and an institution that Republicans keep in place because “deep down they fear they’re in the minority.”
