More Paralympic gold medals for US in equestrian and swimming

PARIS (AP) — The U.S. equestrian team won three more medals in the Paralympic dressage on Saturday, with Fiona Howard and Rebecca Hart earning their third gold medal of the Paris Games.

Paralympic debutant Howard won the Grade II individual freestyle, with veteran Hart taking the win in Grade III. Earlier, teammate Kate Shoemaker won bronze in Grade IV.

There are five classes, with class I for riders with the most severe disabilities.

Howard and Hart won individual gold earlier this week and helped the US to a team victory in the team event on Friday.

May it last a long time

American swimmer Jessica Long extended her huge Paralympic medal haul to 31 with gold in the 100m butterfly (S8).

She won in 1 minute, 10.59 seconds at La Défense Arena, one second ahead of Viktoriia Ishchiulova. Britain’s Alice Tai came third.

The 32-year-old Long also won the women’s 400-meter freestyle on Wednesday.

Her Paralympic career began when she was 12 years old and she won three gold medals at the 2004 Games in Athens.

S8 is for swimmers without limbs. Long is a double amputee.
