Aaron Rodgers had high expectations entering last season: Help the Jets reach the playoffs and return to his MVP form. But that all ended in a matter of four plays in the season opener when he tore his Achilles and was out for the year.

When Rodgers went down, New York’s hopes of a regular season spot also diminished. This year, Jets fans are hoping that a healthy star quarterback will give them a shot at the Super Bowl.

The 49ers will be a tough first test for Rodgers. San Francisco, another title contender, boasts one of the league’s best defensive lines in Nick Bosa and Javon Hargrave. They’re no slouch on the offensive end, either, with quarterback Brock Purdy, running back Christian McCaffrey and receivers Deeboo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, who just signed new contracts to stay in San Francisco.
