Men’s basketball returns to Devaney – University of Nebraska on October 13

A new event has found an old home as the Nebraska men’s basketball team will host a free Red/White scrimmage on Sunday, Oct. 13 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

This is the first time in Fred Hoiberg’s six seasons that the Huskers will host an open scrimmage for fans, and the 2024 Red/White Scrimmage will take place at the Devaney Center, which was home to the Husker Hoops from 1976 to 2013.

Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and the Devaney Center will have a reduced capacity for the event with approximately 6,000 seats available. Concession stands are open and gates open one hour before the scrimmage. The scrimmage itself will be a full game simulation.

“We wanted to do something different and give our fans an opportunity to see the team in action in a competitive setting before our exhibition game,” Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said. “It will be a different experience for our players and provide a good environment. We had some memorable games with Coach Nee’s teams when I played at Iowa State, and I coached at the Devaney Center in Nebraska’s last year in the Big 12.

The Huskers return seven letterwinners, including three starters, from a team that went 23-11 and reached the 2024 NCAA Tournament. NU is led by senior duo Brice Williams (13.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.5 apg) and Juwan Gary (11.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg) while recruiting the services of seven Division I transfers to the arrangement are added.

Fans can claim free general admission tickets at Huskers.com/Tickets beginning Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. Students can reserve a limited number of Red Zone seats starting Wednesday, October 2 at noon and students can visit Huskers. com/students for more information on how to claim your ticket. Current season ticket holders should check their emails for a special pre-sale event on Tuesday, October 1. There is a limit of six tickets per account.

Free parking will be available for the scrimmage in the lots surrounding the Devaney Center and on Innovation Campus.

The Red/White Scrimmage is the second of two preseason fan events leading up to the 2024-2025 season. Opening Night presented by SCHEELS will take place at the Railyard on Canopy Street this Friday, October 4 at 7:00 PM. That event is also open to the public.
