Everything is bigger in Texas, even the jackpots!

A Mega Millions ticket holder won the $800 million jackpot Tuesday at a gas station outside Houston, ending a streak of more than 20 drawings without a jackpot winner.

The winning numbers were 1, 2, 16, 24, 66 and the golden Mega ball 6.

According to the state lottery, the ticket was purchased at the Murphy USA 8848 gas station on Highway 90A in Sugar Land, Texas.

The company, which will receive $1 million for selling the jackpot-winning ticket, is located across from Constellation Field, home to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, and 21 miles (34 kilometers) southwest of downtown Houston.

It marks the 15th time a jackpot-winning Mega Millions ticket has been sold in Texas, and the first time since Oct. 6, 2023, when Blue Yucca Trust won the $361 million prize.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions are an astronomical 1 in 302,575,350.

The lucky winner can claim the annual payout of $800 million or opt for the one-time cash payout of $404.2 million.

Prize winners who win more than $1 million in Texas can choose to remain anonymous, according to state law.

Four other lucky players — from New York, California, Florida and Washington State — matched the five white balls and won a $1 million prize.

The New York ticket holder bought the lucky ticket at a Gulf Express gas station in New Windsor, 15 miles north of West Point.

Tuesday’s winner marks the third time the Mega Millions top prize has been won in 2024, following the $1.13 billion prize sold on March 26 and the $552 million prize on June 4.

The next drawing, on Friday the 13th, will go back to $20 million.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever won, worth $1.62 billion, was sold in August 2023 at a Publix supermarket in Neptune Beach, Florida.

The historic ticket was claimed by Saltines Holdings LLC, which opted to claim the one-time, lump-sum payment of $794,248,882.00.
