Mariah Carey is faced with twice the grief — her mother, Patriciaand her sister, Alisonboth died on the same day last weekend, TMZ has confirmed.

The singer said in a statement to TMZ: “I am heartbroken that I lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

Mariah added: “I feel blessed that I was able to spend my last week with my mom before she passed.”

She wrapped the message this way: “I appreciate everyone’s love, support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

The cause of death of Patricia and Alison is currently unknown.

Mariah’s relationship with her mother was a complicated one. In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she described it as a “twisted cord of pride, hurt, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.”

Even with their rocky relationship, Mariah and her mother maintained their bond… and she dedicated a section of her memoir to her, saying her mother did the best she could and that she would always love her.

Mariah’s relationship with her estranged sister was more complicated — and Alison even her famous sister sued about allegations of abuse in her memoir.
