Sean “Diddy” Combs has been the scene of controversy for months.

This is what you need to know:

March raids: According to a senior federal law enforcement official with knowledge of the matter, authorities searched Combs’ homes in Miami and Los Angeles because he is the target of a federal investigation being conducted by HSI, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s principal investigative arm.

According to a second law enforcement source familiar with the searches, the investigation is based on many of the same allegations of sexual abuse that have been raised in the civil lawsuits.

HSI is responsible for investigating transnational crime and threats, including human trafficking, terrorism, drug trafficking and other organized criminal activities.

The raids came weeks after Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones filed a lawsuit against Combs.

November lawsuit: Combs settled a lawsuit brought by his former girlfriend, singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who alleged that she had been raped and subjected to repeated physical and other abuse at the hands of Combs for years.

Civil lawsuits: Since November, Combs has faced 10 lawsuits, nine of which directly accuse him of sexual assault. As CNN previously reported, several of those accusers have met with federal investigators for questioning as part of the wide-ranging investigation.
