Live football scores, fixtures, updates: Miami rolls past Cal to cap off wild day

With only one match between the top 25 teams on the schedule, this week looked like it could be a dud. But college football always delivers when it’s least expected, and it did so in a big way on Saturday with two top-five upsets.

A week after holding off Georgia in a clash of SEC titans, No. 1 Alabama lost to Vanderbilt, 40-35, in a stunner in Nashville. Later, No. 4 Tennessee fell to Arkansas, 19-14, after a Hogs comeback in the fourth quarter capped a wild day in the SEC.

The Commodores were 23.5-point underdogs but never trailed in the upset win. Vandy QB Diego Pavia was the hero, completing 16 of his 20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 57 yards.

The Razorbacks’ defense was crucial in shutting down the Volunteers, containing Nico Iamaleava all night (17 of 29, 158 passing yards), but the hero was backup QB Malachi Singleton. He came on after Taylen Green was injured late in the game and led the Hogs on a game-winning touchdown drive, running his legs into the end zone for an 11-yard score. The Vols had a chance at a rebuttal, but fell short.

And even in the game, that wasn’t a surprise, No. 8 Miami rallied from 25 points down to beat Cal 39-38 in late ACC action.

Elsewhere, No. 5 Georgia rebounded from its loss to Alabama to handle Auburn and No. 3 Ohio State looked convincing in a loss at Iowa as freshman Jeremiah Smith made another one-handed TD grab. No. No. 25 Texas A&M suppressed No. 9 Missouri 41-10 early in the day in the only ranked-by-ranked matchup.

These are the biggest winners and losers from Saturday’s action. Follow the rest of tonight’s matches below.
