With high temperatures forecast to exceed 30 degrees and the heat index expected to reach 40 to 43 degrees Celsius, some schools in La Salle, Bureau and Putnam counties are taking precautions to ensure the safety of students.

Lincoln Elementary School in Ottawa is participating in e-learning from home from Monday to Wednesday.

Below is a list of schools in the Illinois Valley that are closing their schools early:

Deer Park, 11:30am Monday and Tuesday.

DePue Unit School District, 11:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Ladd School, 11:20am Monday & Tuesday

Oglesby Holy Family School, 1:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. No after-school care. No uniforms.

Ottawa High School, 12:10 pm Monday and Tuesday. Lunch is served and bus transportation is provided both days.
