Ligue 1 side Lens target ex-Man Utd defender Teden Mengi

French side RC Lens are reportedly considering loaning Luton Town defender Teden Mengi.

Mengi left Manchester United to join Luton Town when the club were promoted to the Premier League last summer. He has made 35 appearances in all competitions in the 2023-24 season, but could not prevent the Hatters from being relegated straight back to the Championship.

However, Mengi was one of Luton’s best individual players, ranking first among his team-mates in the Premier League for interceptions (57) and saves (136).

According to a report from Foot Mercato (via Football League World) earlier this summer, Mengi’s form had attracted the attention of Fulham, Crystal Palace and Nice, although a move never materialised.

Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore also spoke CaughtOffside In April he thought so highly of Mengi that he would ‘drive him to Villa Park tomorrow’ to complete a transfer.

“I can’t be the only one who has noticed that he has the right background and ambition to leave United at 21 and go it alone,” he said in an exclusive interview.

“I am really impressed with his performances and I am sure he will appear on the radar of several ‘big clubs’.

“He’s played for England at all age levels so he’ll have had an A+ club and international base. Personally I’d drive him to Villa Park tomorrow if Unai Emery feels like it.”

Lens targets former Man Utd defender Teden Mengi

A recent report from Foot Mercato (via Get Football News France) has revealed that Lens are the latest potential suitor for Mengi.

The Ligue 1 club are said to want to loan the 22-year-old with the option of making the move permanent next summer.

Lens are on the lookout for a central defender as Austrian international Kevin Danso is reportedly a target for Italian giants Roma.

Mengi has already made two appearances for Luton this season, playing the full 90 minutes in the Hatters’ 4-1 defeat to Burnley and 0-0 draw with Portsmouth to kick off the new Championship season.
