LB Jay Higgins forces and recovers fumble

play

Iowa football linebacker Jay Higgins made a big play during the second quarter of Saturday’s game against Ohio State.

Shortly after a puzzling sequence in which the Hawkeyes called a timeout seconds before a successful fake punt on fourth-and-short, the Buckeyes drove deep into Iowa territory. What could have been a huge stretch, Higgins stepped up.

Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith hauled in a screen pass and had plenty of room to run. While walking down to about the Iowa 35-yard line, Higgins came from the right and made a hit that knocked the ball out. As the football rolled toward the sideline, Higgins stayed with it and dove on the ball before it went out of bounds.
