Las Vegas Raiders’ Antonio Pierce Reacts to Panthers Loss

Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce had some strong words for his team after their humiliating 36-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers, one of the league’s weakest teams.

“We took a beating,” Pierce said in the postgame press conference. “We’ve got to put on pads, we’ve got to get on the sled. Same group that, for the most part, all came back and same techniques and same coaches. There’s no different scheme, so you’re obviously going to have to coach it better and be tough on the guys, some guys that need some rough coaching. Because that’s just, we didn’t see that coming on either side of the ball, we thought we had a chance to run the ball, but we didn’t, we didn’t do that at all. We tried and tried and tried.

“I would have booed us too. Offensively, defensively, we didn’t do well enough up front. It’s not good enough.”

The Raiders were in top form after their supposedly memorable win over the Baltimore Ravens. The Panthers appeared to be at their breaking point, benching 2023 first-round quarterback Bryce Young for veteran quarterback Andy Dalton. It looked like the Raiders were going to pull off a solid home win.

The team came out flat, to say the least. The run game was poor again. The Raiders totaled 55 yards on the ground. Only 3.4 yards per attempt.

Quarterback Gardner Minshew had two ugly sacks and threw an interception. Edge rusher Maxx Crosby was completely sidelined by the Panthers (and injury), managing just one solo tackle (three total) and a pass defensed.

The Panthers ran roughshod over the Raiders, led by Chuba Hubbard’s 114 yards and touchdown on 21 carries. Pierce had a somewhat ominous response to his team’s effort.

“I think as the game went on, there were definitely a number of individuals who made business decisions,” Pierce said. “And we’ll be making business decisions going forward.”

The loss moves the Raiders to 1-2 heading into next week’s game against the Cleveland Browns, their second straight home game.
