Kylian Mbappe loses to Real Madrid after win over Real Valladolid

Kylian Mbappe drew another clean sheet as Real Madrid got their LaLiga title defence underway with a late 3-0 win over Real Valladolid.

The French superstar, who failed to score in his competitive debut in last week’s 1-1 draw against Real Mallorca, failed to score again and it was Carlo Ancelotti’s substitutes who dashed Valladolid’s hopes of a draw.

Federico Valverde broke the deadlock at the Bernabeu five minutes after the break, but it took late goals from Brahim Diaz and Mbappe’s 86th-minute substitute Endrick – his first for the club – to send Madrid to victory.

Antoine Griezmann’s perfectly taken free-kick sets up a derby against Girona, leading rivals Atletico Madrid to their first league win of the season.

The French midfielder’s 39th-minute goal put Atlético ahead of the side who beat them last season and finished third. Marcos Llorente’s 48th-minute strike and a third from substitute Koke secured a 3-0 victory at the Civitas Metropolitano, on a night when new signing Conor Gallagher made his debut from the bench.

There was drama in the closing stages of the match at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque, with all three goals in Leganes’ 2-1 win over Las Palmas coming in the final 19 minutes.

Substitutes Juan Cruz and Enric Franquesa caused the home side’s defeat. Daniel Rabaseda Antolin missed a penalty in the second half, while Sandro Ramirez’s replay in injury time hardly counted.

Alaves, who had defender Aleksandar Sedlar sent off four minutes from time, drew 0-0 at home to Real Betis.

Serge Gnabry was Bayern Munich’s hero as he started the new Bundesliga season with a hard-fought 3-2 win at Wolfsburg.

Bayern, whose run of 11 consecutive titles was ended by Bayer Leverkusen last season, led through Jamal Musiala’s opener but fell behind through a Lovro Majer double – the first of them from the penalty spot, before the tide was turned by a Jakub Kaminski own goal and Gnabry’s 82nd-minute winner, set up by Harry Kane.

St Pauli celebrated their return to the top division with a 2-0 defeat to Heidenheim, with Paul Wanner and Jan Schoppner on the scoreboard.

In Serie A, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was one of the goalscorers as Napoli beat Bologna 3-0.

Captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo scored in first-half injury time, with Kvaratskhelia and substitute Giovanni Simeone finishing the job.

Emmanuel Gyasi and a penalty from Lorenzo Colombo gave Empoli a fine 2-1 victory over Roma, despite a late consolation goal from substitute Eldor Shomurodov.

Scottish striker Che Adams’ first goal for Torino was enough to secure a 2-1 victory over Atalanta in the Champions League.

Mateo Retegui had put the visitors ahead, but Ivan Ilic’s first-half equaliser ensured Adams took the points four minutes after the break.

Meanwhile, Venice secured their first point since promotion after a 0-0 draw at Fiorentina.

Mason Greenwood’s third goal for Marseille salvaged a point from a 2-2 Ligue 1 draw against Reims.

The home side led through Amine Harit but fell behind 2-1 through goals from Sergio Akieme and Yaya Fofana before Greenwood headed in the equaliser.

Thanks to an own goal from Julien Le Cardinal, Lens were able to continue their perfect start to the season with a 2-0 home win over Brest, last season’s surprise.

Promoted Auxerre were left reeling as they lost 2-0 at Nantes and had striker Ado Onaiwu sent off.

Goals from Andrey Santos and Emanuel Emegha and an own goal from Christopher Wooh gave Strasbourg a 3-1 home win over Rennes, while Shavy Babicka helped Toulouse to a second straight draw with a 73rd minute goal in the 1-1 draw at Nice.
