The Arizona State football team continues its 2024 schedule with a game against Kansas on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Follow our live updates of the game, which is being played at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, Arizona for the latest score, news, notes and analysis of the college football Week 6 Big 12 Conference game between the Sun Devils and the Jayhawks.

Arizona State was off last week. Kansas lost to TCU in Week 5, 38-27.

ASU football is 3-1 on the season. Kansas is 1-4.

This is the first-ever matchup between the Sun Devils and Jayhawks, who are now Big 12 Conference rivals.

ASU leads Kansas in the fourth quarter, 35-31.

The Sun Devils took the lead on Kansas with 16 seconds left on a 3-yard pass from Sam Leavitt to Jordyn Tyson, giving ASU a 35-31 lead.

It was the first pass for ASU on the drive. ASU had rushed the ball on the previous seven plays, including a 39-yard run from Cam Skattebo on the drive.

Tyson has six catches for 77 yards, with two touchdowns, in the game.

Skattebo has 25 carries for 182 yards and a touchdown.

Every drive in this fourth quarter has resulted in a touchdown. Kansas has 16 seconds left.

Score: ASU 35, Kansas 31 (:16 left in fourth quarter)

Big 12 After Dark. That’s what this game has become.

Kansas just took a 31-28 lead on a 34-yard pass from Jalon Daniels to Quentin Skinner.

Kansas went six plays for 69 yards on the drive.

ASU gave Kansas new life on the drive when the Sun Devils ran offsides on 3rd & 7 at the Kansas 34 and then hit Daniels late on the play for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty.

Clayton Smith was ejected for targeting on the late hit. He was the second ASU player ejected for targeting in the game (Keyshaun Elliott was ejected in the first half).

There have been four lead changes in the fourth quarter as the teams have exchanged touchdowns on every possession.

Score: Kansas 31, Arizona State 24 (2:53 left in fourth quarter)

There have been three lead changes in the last eight minutes of this game.

And ASU now has the lead again against Kansas.

Sam Leavitt threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jordyn Tyson to cap off a 10-play, 75-yard drive for the Sun Devils.

ASU, which started the game 0-for-4 on third down, is now 5-for-9 on that down, having converted its last five third-down attempts.

Tyson now has five catches for 74 yards in the game. Sam Leavitt is 13-for-23 passing for 155 yards, with three touchdown passes (a career high) and one interception.

Score: ASU football 28, Kansas 24 (6:19 left in fourth quarter)

ASU defense has held Devin Neal in check most of the game.

Until now.

Devin Neal just had a 31-yard run for a touchdown to give Kansas the lead again against ASU. The Sun Devils didn’t touch him on the run.

It was the Jayhawks’ longest run of the game.

Kansas went 75 yards over eight plays on the drive.

Neal had 11 carries for 31 yards before that touchdown run. Now he’s at 12 carries for 62 yards, doubling his game total on the one rush.

Back and forth we go, with Kansas now back in the lead. Will ASU be able to answer?

Score: Kansas 24, ASU football 21 (10:49 left in fourth quarter)

The Sun Devils have their first lead on the Jayhawks since leading 7-0 after the first possession of the game.

ASU just went 48 yards on 10 plays, scoring on a 1-yard by running back Cam Skattebo, who lined up at QB.

The drive took 5:21 off the clock.

Skattebo easily ran into the end zone.

He has now rushed 18 times for 111 yards. ASU has 194 yards rushing in the game.

Kansas has been outscored in the fourth quarter this season, 52-20.

Score: ASU football 21, Kansas 17 (14:56 left in fourth quarter)

ASU brought some pressure on Kansas on the Jayhawks’ next possession.

It paid off.

ASU forced Kansas to punt after three plays, the key play a sack of Jalon Daniels for a loss of 12 yards on 3rd and 5 at the Kansas 25.

Daniels is now 13-for-23 for 195 yards in this game. At one point, he was 10-for-12.

ASU has the two turnovers, but Kansas doesn’t have any points off ASU’s turnovers. In fact, the Jayhawks have gone three-and-out after each of the Sun Devils’ turnovers.

The Sun Devils are losing the turnover battle against Kansas.

Sam Leavitt just had a pass intercepted in the end zone, another missed opportunity for the Sun Devils to get some points.

The ball appeared to be a little high, but Jordyn Tyson tipped it, allowing Devin Dye of Kansas to get down with the ball and ending ASU’s scoring threat.

That’s ASU’s second turnover after Tyson fumbled it in the first half.

After a targeting penalty on ASU, Kansas had a first and goal at the ASU 4 on the first possession of the second half.

ASU’s defense held the Jayhawks to a field goal, which has to be considered a win for the Sun Devils’ defense.

Still, Kansas went 72 yards on the drive to retake the lead.

The Jayhawks have struggled to get into the end zone in the red zone all season and those struggles returned on that drive.

Jalon Daniels threw two incomplete passes after the Jayhawks had 1st and goal at the 4.

On the drive, Kansas was forced to call a time out after a late substitution with the officials allowing ASU to substitute (and ASU players appearing to take their time getting onto the field).

We’ll see if that wasted timeout for Kansas ends up meaning something later.

Score: Kansas 17, ASU football 14 (10:00 left in third quarter)

It’s halftime in Tempe and the Sun Devils and Jayhawks are tied, 14-14.

Some numbers that stood out in the first half?

ASU was 0-for-4 on third down, while Kansas was 4-for-7.

Arizona State however, had 14 first downs in the half, while Kansas had 10.

ASU had 242 total yards, while Kansas had 214. ASU rushed for 125 yards. Kansas rushed for 64.

The Sun Devils had the only turnover in the first 30 minutes.

Kansas had a 15:40 to 14:20 advantage in time of possession, despite having one fewer possession than Arizona State.

The Jayhawks’ Jalon Daniels went 10-for-14 for 150 yards passing, with one touchdown. He rushed three times for 24 yards and a touchdown.

The Sun Devils’ Sam Leavitt was 9-for-16 for 102 yards and two touchdown passes. He rushed for 46 yards on five carries.

Cam Skattebo had eight carries for 62 yards for ASU.

Halftime score: Arizona State 14, Kansas 14

That punt return from Melquan Stovall proved to be critical. As was a couple of defensive pass interference penalties on Kansas as the Sun Devils drove 58 yards in 52 seconds over four plays to tied the game with 26 seconds left in the first half.

Sam Leavitt connected with a wide-open Chamon Metayer for the touchdown.

Leavitt is now 9-for-16 for 102 yards and two touchdowns in this game.

He has also rushed for 46 yards on five carries.

Score: ASU football 14, Kansas 14 (:26 left in first half)

The Sun Devils’ defense stepped up, forcing Kansas to punt after a three-and-out.

Melquan Stovall then returned the punt 36 yards to the ASU 42-yard line, perhaps giving ASU a chance to get some more points on the board late in the first half.

No, ASU couldn’t capitalize on the fake punt vs Kansas.

Jordyn Tyson fumbled the ball after a 9-uyard catch when he was trying to make something happen on the play, ending the Sun Devils’ drive.

It was just ASU’s third turnover of the season, but it came at a very critical time.

The Sun Devils are 0-for-4 on third down in this game.

But they are 1-for-1 on fourth down.

ASU just extended a drive with a fake punt, with punter Kanyon Floyd completing a 15-yard pass to defensive lineman Clayton Smith on 4th & 5 at the ASU 35 late in the first half.

Can Arizona State capitalize late in the first half? There are two minutes remaining in the second quarter.

The Sun Devils really needed a stop against Kansas.

They got it.

ASU forced Kansas to punt after the Jayhawks appeared to have some momentum on their drive, giving the ball back to the Sun Devils.

Kansas gets the ball to start the second half, so ASU really does not want to fall behind by more than a touchdown in the first half.

ASU needs to find a way to stop Jalon Daniels. The Kansas QB is 10-for-13 in this game. He entered the game completing just 53% of his passes on the season.

It did force a Daniels’ incompletion on 3rd & 4 at the ASU 44 to force the punt on that latest possession for the Jayhawks.

The Sun Devils were marching down the field vs Kansas, and then everything went wrong.

After rushes of 3, 6, 19, 8 and 6 yards, Sam Leavitt’s pass to DeCarlos Brooks was dropped and then he completed a 6-yard pass to Troy Omeire.

On third down and 4 at the Kansas 16, Raleek Brown only gained one yard for Arizona State.

ASU lined up for a 4th & 3 at the KU 16, but a false start forced the Sun Devils to attempt a 38-yard field goal by Ian Hershey.

That field goal was blocked, resulting in ASU coming up empty on the drive and missing a great opportunity to even this game.

The Sun Devils did appear to get something going in the running game on the drive, but they turned away from the run and lost their momentum.

The Jayhawks just went 85 yards on 10 plays, taking their first lead of the game on a 30-yard pass to Quentin Skinner from Jalon Daniels.

Skinner was wide open, with ASU apparently having some miscommunication in its secondary.

ASU is also struggling to stop Kansas from completing passes to its running backs in this game.

Devin Neal has four catches for 45 yards, while Daniel Hishaw Jr. has a catch for 17 yards.

Daniels is now 9-for-11 for 121 yards passing in this game, with the passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown.

This is the first time ASU has trailed at home this season.

Score: Kansas 14, ASU football 7 (11:45 left in second quarter)

ASU had 75 yards on its first possession.

But it hasn’t been able to replicate that success.

It gained just 21 yards combined on its second and third drives.

Cam Skattebo has three carries for 12 yards for the Sun Devils, who would really like to see the running back get going.

ASU lost five yards and went 3-and-out on its most recent possession.

Kansas went 3-and-out on its second possession of the game, with ASU’s defense stepping up to contain Daniel Hishaw on two short runs and force Jalon Daniels to lose yards on another.

It’s a good sign for ASU’s run defense, which needs a big game against the Jayhawks running game.

The Sun Devils’ second possession of the game was not nearly as successful as their first.

ASU gained 11 yards on a Sam Leavitt rush to start the drive, but then only gained five yards over its next three plays and had to punt.

A 49-yard punt from Kanyon Floyd did pin Kansas in its own territory.

Kansas QB Jalon Daniels just evened the score with a 22-yard touchdown run for the Jayhawks, his third rushing score of the season.

Both teams scored on their opening drive. Kansas’ drive couldn’t have been more well-balanced.

It rushed for 37 yards on the possession and passed for 38.

Devin Neal had a key 25-yard catch out of the backfield to extend the drive for Kansas, which went for 75 yards over 10 plays.

Score: ASU football 7, Kansas 7 (6:23 left in first quarter)

The Sun Devils got off to a great start against the Jayhawks, marching 75 yards in seven plays to take a 7-0 lead on Kansas is Arizona State football’s Big 12 home opener.

Sam Leavitt connected on a 28-yard pass to Xavier Guillory for the touchdown.

Leavitt went 3-for-3 for 45 yards passing on the drive.

ASU is 0-1 in Big 12 play and Kansas is 0-2, so this game is big for both teams in the conference. The Jayhawks are 1-4 overall. The Sun Devils are 3-1.

Score: ASU football 7, Kansas 0 (11:44 left in first quarter)
