Josh Allen responds to LeBron James’ praise, wants him to join the Bills’ offense

Those who watched Week 3 of the Buffalo Bills Monday night football clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars certainly got their money’s worth, as quarterback Josh Allen was nothing short of incredible in his team’s dominant 47-10 victory. The signal-caller completed 77% of his passes for 263 yards and four scores, connecting with ten different pass-catchers throughout the game while effectively attacking all levels of the field.

He was simply amazing, with both local and national fans and pundits praising his performance from the opening kick-off. The betting markets even reacted to his incredible performance in real time, as he became the favorite to win this year’s NFL MVP Award at BetMGM halfway through the clash.

Four-time NBA MVP LeBron James was among those who responded to Allen’s performance on social media, tweeting midway through the first half: “I really enjoy watching Josh Allen play!” The post, which can perhaps best be described as a succinct summary of the shared mindset of the Buffalo faithful since 2018, predictably went viral, with the Bills passer even being asked about it following his team’s win. He was happy to accept the praise, even revealing that he’s worn the four-time NBA champion’s shoes to practice.

“That’s pretty cool,” Allen said. “I’ve been wearing LeBron’s shoes, the Fruity Pebbles, in practice for that reason. I’m a huge fan of his, and coming from him, one of the best, if not the best, NBA basketball player of all time, that’s pretty cool.”

This isn’t the first time the face of the NBA has voiced his support for Allen, as he defended the quarterback in August after an anonymous ESPN poll of 103 NFL players concluded that Allen was the league’s most overrated signal-caller. James responded with “I GUARANTEE he’s at the top of the scouting report before he plays Buffalo offense” in an Instagram post, as one of many figures from the sports world to come to Allen’s defense following the poll.

Although James was heralded as a future NBA superstar while still at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, he was also quite productive on the football field, garnering attention from several prestigious programs, as his head coach compared him to Randy Moss. James was always seen as the prince of basketball with promise, and thus hung up his helmet fairly early in his high school years; that said, Allen is open to the idea of James lacing up a pair of football shoes again and joining the Buffalo offense as a tight end.

“We could give him a couple fades,” Allen joked in his postgame media availability. “I would love that.”

The Bills’ “eat-all” offense has been quite productive through three games this year, with six different players cashing in on Monday alone; there’s no reason James can’t feast on Buffalo’s offense with Allen throwing him the bricks. Jokes aside, Allen has had tremendous success with his retooled corps, and it appears the 20-time NBA All-Star will continue to enjoy his game from afar.
