At the end of Todd Phillips’ sequel, Arthur Fleck meets a violent end when he is stabbed by another Arkham inmate after first taking responsibility for the crimes he committed in the first film by to confess his trial.

It’s a shocking, if seemingly inevitable, development, but Arthur’s demise would apparently play out very differently.

Shortly before returning to Arkham State Penitentiary to serve his sentence, Arthur meets Lee Quinzel (Lady Gaga) on the now iconic Joker Steps, and she seems to have done what her (former) idol couldn’t by living her old life. to leave. behind her and fully embraces her new ‘Harley Quinn’ persona.

However, it seems like Lee was originally going to put an exclamation point on her transformation by killing Fleck himself.

In the set video below, Quinn is seen dancing and singing manically on the stairs as police surround her. How she kills Fleck is unclear, but several sources say this was the original ending of the film. It’s unclear why Warner Bros./Phillips decided to change this, but it probably wasn’t because the scene tested poorly.

The studio reportedly decided not to screen the test joker sequel, which isn’t really that surprising!

The new film stars Joaquin Phoenix again in his Oscar-winning dual role as Arthur Fleck/Joker, opposite Oscar winner Lady Gaga (A star is born). The film also stars Oscar nominee Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Catherine Keener (Go away, Capote), alongside Zazie Beetz, who reprises her role joker.

The film has an R rating “a bit of strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality and a brief full nudity.”
