Johnny Gaudreau’s sister’s wedding canceled after NHL star’s death

Johnny Gaudreau’s sister’s wedding has been canceled after the NHL star and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, were killed by a suspected drunk driver.

Katie Gaudreau and her fiancé, Devin Joyce, have called off their wedding at St. Mary’s Parish in Gloucester City, New Jersey, due to the tragedy, a church official confirmed to TMZ on Friday.

The bride and groom were scheduled to walk down the aisle at 1:45 p.m. in the Roman Catholic church, with Johnny and Matthew acting as groomsmen.

The family was then scheduled to travel to Philadelphia for the couple’s 7:30 p.m. reception at Lucy by Cescaphe, according to Katie and Joyce’s page on the Knot.

The parish of St. Mary did not immediately respond to Page Six’s calls.

Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, were fatally struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee while riding bicycles in their hometown of Salem County, New Jersey, at 8:19 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say the driver, Sean M. Higgins, attempted to pass two slow-moving vehicles and instead struck the siblings from behind on the night before their sister’s wedding.

Higgins, 43, allegedly failed a breathalyzer test and admitted to drinking five or six beers before the incident.

According to prison records seen by Page Six, he was jailed and charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter.

Johnny’s team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, released a statement Friday morning saying they were “shocked and devastated” by the “unimaginable tragedy.”

The organization also expressed its condolences to Meredith Gaudreau, the left winger’s wife of nearly three years, and their two children, 1-year-old daughter Noa and 6-month-old son Johnny Jr.

Matthew was also a hockey player, most recently playing for the Worcester Railers.
