Jets fire head coach Robert Saleh

The man who once gave Aaron Rodgers a jar of honey from the Queen’s garden recently returned to England and was stung. And now he’s doing some random stabbing.

The 2-3 Jets have fired coach Robert Saleh, according to multiple reports. Saleh, 45, had a 20-36 record in more than three seasons on the court.

It feels premature. It feels desperate. It feels dysfunctional.

Yet apparently someone had to be blamed for the embarrassment suffered at owner Woody Johnson’s home-away-from-home. The former US ambassador to the UK (who, we’ve heard, wants to do it again if Donald Trump is re-elected) saw his team fall behind 17-0 to the Vikings before rallying and almost winning but ultimately losing the game .

But given the efforts of the defense – Saleh’s specialty – it would have been a blow. The Jets held the Vikings to 17 points of attack. A week earlier, Denver scored just 10.

The violation is the problem. And even though Saleh is the head coach, Woody essentially turned the offense over to quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Jets hired his coaching BFF in Nathaniel Hackett. They’ve added multiplayer BFFs in Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard. They are currently exploring adding Rodgers’ ultimate BFF, receiver Davante Adams.

The offense is a shitshow. Rodgers looks old. Over 40. He’s missed a year, but it’s more like he fell asleep under a tree for twenty years.

But dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things. And leave it to one of the most dysfunctional ownership groups to blame the defensive head coach for the misguided decision to go all-in on Aaron Rodgers.

Basically, Jets fans should hope Trump wins. If Woody is taken out of the mix, they might have another four years to try to get things right. Before he comes back, of course.
